I have taken a number of high profile, mission critical systems from conception through to production. This includes:
Night IT Support Analyst
Xtreme Information
October 2001 -
March 2005
Ensured the smooth operation of the night shift IT systems. This included basic desktop maintenance, through to complex scripts in a range of tools to fix corrupt data sets alongside developing small applications as requested by the production team or other members of the night shift IT team.
The applications I created include:
Reports - This includes a range of small and simple reports generated on request by members of the night shift team. These often took data not imported into our database, such as file creation times on temporary files and used SED and AWK to condense this data set before merging it with data from the database and generate a CSV file. This additional data enabled users to make more informed decisions regarding trends and system utilization profiles.
Monitoring applications - A number of sophisticated applications were created to monitor queue sizes (files in a folder, rows in a database table) inform a member of IT when either a queue grew above a preset figure or if the content of a queue did not decrease. Other tools monitored applications to determine if they were still available, and if not inform a member of IT – including detailed information about which application, server and implication if left unfixed.
